About The Position

Azure Networking is building intelligent automation and engineering infrastructure to help Microsoft’s global cloud network operate reliably at scale. The team focuses on network qualification, test automation, lab and device infrastructure, and engineering systems that validate new hardware, software, and networking capabilities before production deployment.

The Senior Software Engineer designs, develops, and operates scalable software platforms and automation solutions for network qualification and engineering infrastructure. The role works across cloud services, network devices, testbeds, telemetry, and engineering workflows to automate qualification, validation, troubleshooting, and device lifecycle scenarios. It also applies AI, machine learning, and AI agent technologies to improve automation, data analysis, troubleshooting, and engineering productivity.

The position offers the opportunity to deepen expertise in large-scale cloud networking and distributed systems, develop AI-powered engineering solutions, and drive end-to-end software architecture and automation to improve network quality and reliability. Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
• Must pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
• 1+ years of software engineering experience, AI/agent experience, distributed/cloud systems experience, and networking/automation knowledge.
• 1+ years of AI experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and operate scalable software and automation solutions for Azure network qualification and engineering infrastructure.
• Build services and tools to automate network device provisioning and configuration; software and firmware lifecycle management; test execution; telemetry collection; and health validation.
• Develop AI-powered solutions and intelligent agents to improve test automation, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, engineering decision-making, and productivity.
• Build data-driven solutions using network telemetry, logs, test results, and operational signals to identify issues and generate actionable insights.
• Design reliable distributed systems with observability, failure handling, diagnostics, automated recovery, scalability, and maintainability.
• Partner with software engineers, network engineers, and cross-functional teams to translate complex and ambiguous networking requirements into scalable software solutions.
• Drive engineering quality through architecture and design reviews, code reviews, automated testing, monitoring, documentation, and continuous improvement.
