About The Position

Lilly Catalyze360 is an initiative aimed at supporting early-stage biotech companies by providing access to infrastructure, expertise, and resources. It comprises Lilly Ventures, Lilly Gateway Labs, Lilly ExploR&D, and Lilly TuneLab. Lilly TuneLab is an AI/ML platform that offers biotech companies access to drug discovery models trained on Lilly's extensive research data. This platform integrates advanced in silico modeling and federated learning, combining machine learning algorithms, computational power, exclusive datasets, and Lilly's domain knowledge to advance drug discovery and patient therapies. The Senior Software Engineer role is crucial in transforming Lilly's powerful AI models and solutions into a user-friendly SaaS offering for biotech startups, focusing on creating coherent workflows and a clean product experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping software used by real customers.
  • Experience as a senior engineer on a product team, ideally a small one.
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Strong full-stack fundamentals, comfortable owning features from database schema to UI.
  • Solid API design and integration experience.
  • Real frontend craft, capable of designing and shipping user-friendly interfaces.
  • Cloud experience and comfort with modern deployment practices.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML to make informed integration decisions.
  • Continuous learning mindset, seeking the 'why' behind requests.
  • Hands-on experience building LLM-powered features, understanding practical challenges.
  • Comfortable with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code).
  • Product instincts, focusing on the user and the problem being solved.
  • Experience building software that external customers have paid for and relied on.
  • Ability to simplify complex backend capabilities into usable product experiences.
  • Focus on delivering business value.

Responsibilities

  • Build the product, owning product surfaces end-to-end (frontend, backend, data, integrations).
  • Build the application layer that wraps Lilly’s AI models into reliable, cohesive workflows for biotech customers.
  • Drive features end-to-end, taking fuzzy requirements and shipping functional solutions.
  • Contribute to the engineering bar, including code review, testing, release process, and on-call responsibilities.
  • Mentor engineers, helping them improve their skills and understanding of the codebase.
  • Partner with product and design teams on feature development.
  • Identify and address areas that lack ownership.
  • Navigate enterprise infrastructure, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with Lilly IT and internal platform teams to leverage existing capabilities.
  • Participate in customer conversations to provide technical expertise.
