Senior Software Engineer

Certara•UNAVAILABLE, UNAVAILABLE

About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer on Pulse, you will design, build, and maintain shared integration services that enable secure, event-based communication and data exchange across Certara applications. Pulse is a foundational platform capability—not an end-user product—and supports cross-product workflows, file exchange, and system-to-system integration. You will collaborate with product, architecture, security, and engineering teams in an agile environment to deliver a scalable, well-governed platform that other Certara teams can adopt with confidence. The role emphasizes high-quality, secure, and compliant solutions.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience in similar software engineering roles.
  • Experience building and operating APIs and event-driven or messaging-based systems.
  • Solid understanding of authentication and authorization concepts and secure coding practices.
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative agile software organization.
  • Willingness to embrace AI-assisted development and continuously learn and adopt evolving AI tools and workflows.
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and own significant modules end to end.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with shared services, integration platforms, messaging systems, or data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of enterprise identity models such as RBAC, ABAC, ReBAC, and AWS IAM.
  • Experience with cloud-hosted AWS SaaS architectures.
  • Experience in regulated or compliance-aware life sciences environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Pulse services, APIs, and event contracts used by multiple Certara applications.
  • Own one or more significant Pulse platform components, including their reliability, performance, and operability in a SaaS environment.
  • Build secure, scalable patterns for event-based messaging and file or data exchange, avoiding ad hoc point-to-point integrations.
  • Implement identity-based authentication and authorization across Pulse services, such as RBAC, ABAC, ReBAC, or IAM.
  • Translate security, data governance, and regulatory expectations into well-tested engineering solutions.
  • Author and review unit, integration, and contract tests; participate in code and design reviews.
  • Break complex deliverables into smaller parts and deliver them incrementally to enable collaboration.
  • Consistently produce deliverables that do not require revision.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Product Manager on requirements elicitation, backlog refinement, and technical trade-offs.
  • Partner with consuming application teams to onboard them to Pulse and support adoption.
  • Oversee the work of lower-level engineers and provide significant feedback to team efforts.
  • Contribute to process improvements, architecture documentation, and team process documentation.
  • Identify and proactively communicate risks related to own work to product leadership.
  • Take initiative to identify and suggest future work for self and the team.
  • Use AI coding assistants and agentic tools to accelerate design, development, testing, and documentation, applying sound engineering judgment and reviewing AI-generated code.
  • Build relationships to solve problems directly and limit management escalations.
