About The Position

Setra is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its software team and deliver reliable products used in safety- and mission-critical environments. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining software across embedded Linux systems and related products, with an emphasis on reliability, diagnosability, security, and maintainability. The engineer will develop production-quality C++ software for Linux, contribute to embedded device build and release workflows, and develop or maintain Qt-based interfaces and embedded web applications where applicable. The position also involves industrial communications and building-automation integrations, cross-functional work with hardware, quality, and product teams, and support for field and manufacturing issue resolution. The successful candidate will strengthen engineering practices and contribute to technical decisions, architecture, and secure development.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated professional software engineering experience, typically 6 years, including significant experience delivering production systems in C++ on Linux.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Linux development and debugging, including command-line workflows and scripting such as shell or Python.
  • Experience with pub/sub messaging fabrics such as MQTT, Kafka, or Rabbit.
  • Experience developing Linux applications with Qt, including UI and/or tooling for embedded devices.
  • Experience with modern build systems and packaging workflows for embedded targets, such as CMake, cross-compilation, and ARM build targets.
  • A proven track record of collaboration across software, hardware, and quality disciplines in product environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with industrial and building-communications stacks and protocols, including BACnet and Modbus, and ability to diagnose network and protocol issues.
  • Experience with IoT or edge-gateway integration patterns and multi-protocol systems.
  • Experience with security validation practices and tools, such as SAST/DAST and threat modeling.
  • Exposure to web-facing components or embedded web UIs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement product software features across edge and embedded Linux components and related integrations, including network and protocol interactions.
  • Deliver production-quality C++ components on Linux, including performance tuning, memory and resource optimization, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to device build and release workflows, including cross-compilation and packaging patterns such as CMake-based builds and ARM build targets.
  • Develop or maintain embedded user interfaces and operator-facing tools, including Qt-based and embedded web applications for Linux targets.
  • Implement and troubleshoot industrial communications and building-automation integrations, inspect traffic, and diagnose field issues.
  • Collaborate with hardware, quality, and product teams to translate requirements into robust designs and establish verification and validation expectations.
  • Improve engineering practices, including code reviews, automated checks, CI/CD direction, and repeatable build and test workflows.
  • Support field and manufacturing issue resolution by reproducing issues, conducting root-cause analysis, and delivering fixes with clear documentation and controlled releases.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions, coding standards, and secure development practices.
  • Promote lean agile processes, communicate clearly, and deliver commitments.
  • Drive software excellence through sound development practices and product robustness and security.
