About The Position
Freestar is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to develop and operate solutions for website monetization, with a focus on Prebid.js, Prebid Server, and the header bidding ecosystem. The role involves building production code for high-volume monetization opportunities across publisher websites and serving as a subject-matter expert on client-side monetization, programmatic advertising, and the auction lifecycle. The engineer will own Freestar’s header bidding wrapper end to end, contribute to architecture and release decisions, and work with Google Ad Manager, GPT, and the IMA SDK. They will maintain and improve JavaScript and TypeScript scripts deployed across thousands of publisher sites, protecting on-page performance and Core Web Vitals while supporting monetization. The position is remote within the United States, reports to the Engineering Manager, and requires autonomy, collaboration, and ownership of deployed solutions and their reliability.
Requirements
- Deep, hands-on expertise with Prebid.js, including wrapper configuration, bid adapters, and identity, consent, floors, and analytics modules.
- In-depth knowledge of the auction lifecycle.
- Experience with Prebid Server, including stored requests, server-side adapter configuration, and server-to-server routing.
- Strong working knowledge of Google Ad Manager, including GPT, line item architecture, key-value targeting, unified pricing rules, and dynamic allocation.
- At least 4 years of JavaScript development experience and substantial TypeScript experience.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform for deploying and operating high-throughput services; examples include GKE, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, and BigQuery.
- Broad ad tech fluency, including OpenRTB, SSP/DSP integrations, identity solutions and EIDs, consent frameworks (TCF/GPP), Amazon TAM/APS, and video technologies (IMA SDK/VAST).
- Strong experience with asynchronous programming and understanding of client-server architecture.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a distributed team environment.
- Excellent technical documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to contribute creatively based on merit.

Responsibilities
- Write and ship production code daily, review peers’ pull requests, and partner with engineers to maintain quality across the codebase.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for Prebid.js and Prebid Server, including wrapper architecture, bid adapters, and identity, consent, floors, and analytics modules.
- Track Prebid.js and Prebid Server releases, OpenRTB specification changes, and emerging header bidding standards, and recommend platform upgrades and changes.
- Own the header bidding wrapper end to end, including its architecture, release cycle, feature evaluation and integration, and key design decisions.
- Work with Google Ad Manager, GPT, and the IMA SDK, including GAM line item architecture, key-value targeting, unified auction dynamics, and Unified Pricing Rules.
- Maintain high-quality JavaScript and TypeScript client-side scripts used to monetize publisher sites at scale.
- Measure and protect on-page performance, including INP, LCP, CLS, memory usage, script execution time, and network overhead.
- Take ownership of deployed solutions, maintain their reliability, and address critical issues to support system stability and performance.
