Senior Software Engineer
About The Position
The Boeing Company is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Simulation Team in El Segundo, California. The team builds software- and hardware-based satellite simulators and emulators for high-performing satellite systems serving U.S. government and commercial customers. The engineer will design, implement, test, and maintain real-time Attitude Control Subsystem (ACS) models and integrate them into system-level simulators. The role supports multiple software projects in a rapid, agile CI/CD environment and involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to develop solutions to complex technical challenges. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. It requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance and U.S. citizenship. The candidate must also meet U.S. export-control requirements as a U.S. Person. Boeing will not sponsor employment visas. Eligible candidates may receive relocation assistance. Candidates must complete a technical assessment as part of the selection process.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- 10 or more years of experience leading Modeling & Simulation activities and/or Systems Engineering, Software Development, and Sustainment activities.
- 5 or more years of experience with modern programming and scripting languages such as C++, Java, JavaScript, Perl, Python, or Visual Basic.
- 5 or more years of experience developing software models of physical systems and scientific phenomena.
- Experience using Git in a Linux environment.
- Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required. A clearance active within the past 24 months is considered active.
- Must meet U.S. export-control compliance requirements as a U.S. Person.
- Must complete the required technical assessment as part of the selection process.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor of Science in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 14 or more years of related work experience; or a bachelor’s degree and 18 or more years of directly related work experience; or 22 or more years of related, relevant experience.
- Strong mathematical and engineering foundation in complex physical systems, such as rigid-body dynamics, kinematics, and numerical integration methods like Runge-Kutta.
- Direct experience modeling satellite Attitude and Orbit Control Systems (AOCS/GNC) or working with flight software.
- Experience translating MATLAB/Simulink models into optimized C++/Rust production code.
- Experience running large-scale simulation workloads using cloud infrastructure such as AWS or Azure.
Responsibilities
- Execute full life-cycle development activities, including requirements definition and analysis, software architecture, design, coding, unit testing, integration, documentation, and formal qualification.
- Develop software verification plans, test procedures, and test environments.
- Interface with a technically diverse user community and a multidisciplinary integrated product team comprising systems and software disciplines.
- Work independently and collaboratively to complete trade studies and detailed designs.
- Lead and deliver innovative, high-impact solutions to complex technical challenges.
- Design, implement, test, and maintain real-time Attitude Control Subsystem models and integrate them into system-level simulators.
