All of these products and services are supported by scalable and powerful infrastructure, ensuring a secure and seamless employee and customer experience across stores, digital channels, and distribution centers. What you'll do... Join Walmart’s Cassandra Platform team to design, operate, and continuously improve one of the largest distributed database environments in the world. This role combines production ownership with hands-on engineering focused on automation, reliability, and AI-driven efficiency. Requirements

• Experience building backend or platform software using Java, Python, Ruby, and shell scripting
• Experience operating and troubleshooting distributed systems in production environments
• Ability to identify manual processes and replace them with scalable automation
• Experience participating in on-call and incident response
• Experience collaborating across engineering, cloud, and reliability teams
• Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
• Option 2: 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.

Responsibilities

• Design and build automation to manage provisioning, scaling, upgrades, decommissions, and health monitoring of Cassandra clusters
• Reduce repetitive operational work by developing internal tools and self-service capabilities
• Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response and root cause analysis for production systems
• Improve system reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across a large-scale distributed database footprint
• Evaluate and apply AI-assisted tooling to improve diagnostics, alert quality, and engineering productivity
