•$100,000 - $175,000•Remote

About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a hands-on technical leader and key contributor on a cross-functional team, often acting as a technical lead. You will design, build, and operate Java Spring Boot microservices and RESTful APIs on AWS as the organization migrates from on-premises systems. The role uses event-driven architecture and data stores including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis, while driving execution, mentoring others, and championing operational excellence. The role emphasizes agentic AI-first engineering, using AI-assisted workflows and tools such as GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q, and Claude to support coding, refactoring, documentation, testing, modernization, dependency analysis, and CI/CD interactions, with human-in-the-loop controls and engineering judgment. You will own testing strategy, contribute to CI/CD pipeline evolution during the transition to AWS EKS, instrument services with observability tools, define SLIs and SLOs, participate in a minimal on-call rotation, follow secure coding practices, lead design reviews, mentor peers, and take ownership of services from development through production. The position is remote within the U.S., with quarterly travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3–5+ years designing and building secure Java Spring Boot microservices and RESTful APIs.
  • Production experience with AWS compute, messaging, and storage; event-driven patterns such as Kafka, SNS/SQS, or Kinesis; and container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency with SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
  • Strong testing discipline in unit, integration, and contract testing; experience with CI/CD pipelines; and excellence in code reviews.
  • Experience with observability tools such as New Relic, Datadog, or Splunk, and with incident response.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience securing APIs with Spring Security and OKTA.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Amazon Q, and with DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience building APIs integrated with Kong API Gateway, Apigee, or a similar API gateway.
  • Experience with MongoDB, Redis, or similar NoSQL technology.
  • Experience building services deployed to Tomcat, Jetty, or similar Java Servlet containers.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code such as Terraform or CDK; container orchestration such as EKS or ECS; or serverless technology such as Lambda.
  • Experience with schema registries, CDC, or stream processing.
  • PCI and SOX awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Spring Boot microservices and RESTful APIs following domain-driven design and practices for scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Deliver features using event-driven architecture, including Kafka, SNS/SQS, and Kinesis, with publish/subscribe patterns, idempotency, retries, and error handling.
  • Model schemas and access patterns for SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis, optimizing for correctness, performance, and cost.
  • Use AI-assisted workflows and agentic patterns for coding, refactoring, documentation, testing, feature scaffolding, modernization, dependency analysis, and CI/CD interactions, with appropriate human-in-the-loop controls.
  • Apply AI-assisted pull request review and security scanning, validating suggestions using engineering judgment and secure-by-design principles.
  • Evaluate and improve the use of AI tools across the software development lifecycle to improve throughput, quality, and developer experience.
  • Own unit, integration, and contract testing strategy and enforce CI quality gates.
  • Help shape next-generation CI/CD pipelines as the organization transitions to AWS EKS.
  • Instrument services using New Relic, define SLIs and SLOs, and participate in a minimal on-call rotation.
  • Follow secure coding practices and remediate security findings.
  • Lead design reviews, mentor peers, and guide pull requests with a high bar for craftsmanship.
  • Own services from development through production using a build-it/run-it approach.

Benefits

  • Remote flexibility to work from anywhere in the U.S., with quarterly travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
  • Leadership development, career advancement, and access to cutting-edge technology.
  • Multiple career advancement opportunities.
  • Training and development to support long-term employee careers.
  • Discretionary bonus.
