About The Position

Coinbase's Data Platform team builds and operates systems that centralize internal and third-party data and make it available for analytics, machine learning, and customer-facing experiences. This role bridges the platform and the analysts, data scientists, and data engineers who use it. The engineer will build SDKs, self-service applications, and abstractions that enable thousands of pipelines and analyses without requiring users to understand the underlying infrastructure. Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only; employees are expected to attend quarterly in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Requirements

7 or more years of experience.
Strong Python or Java backend development skills.
Fluent SQL for ETL/ELT, data quality, and analysis.
Hands-on experience with Snowflake, Databricks, or a similar platform.
General experience working with data systems or data pipelines.
Working knowledge of Git, Linux, and Docker.
Experience with Airflow, BI, and AI tools.

Responsibilities

Build clean software abstractions and modular, reusable components to support thousands of pipelines and future growth.
Build and maintain data integration and processing SDKs used by data teams and internal services across Coinbase.
Design and build self-service applications that allow analysts and data scientists to create, manage, and troubleshoot pipelines without deep platform knowledge.
Build tooling for data security and observability, including access controls, data quality tracking, dataset cataloging and lineage, and usage auditing.
Consult upstream teams on structuring databases to expose effective data APIs, and provide downstream data scientists with well-designed, well-documented data models and metrics.
Convert functional requests from data analysts, machine learning, and security and compliance teams into reusable, scalable patterns.
