Google software engineers develop technologies that help billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information. Engineers work on projects critical to Google, with opportunities to move between teams and projects as the business evolves, and are expected to be versatile, demonstrate leadership, and take on problems across the stack. D is the foundational layer of Google’s storage stack: a low-level storage system that stores bytes directly to disk or flash and serves the majority of Google’s data. It mediates between higher-level storage systems and data center management facilities. This role will help build and scale D’s distributed control plane, rethinking how storage capacity is provisioned, isolated, and made available at Google scale. The work includes improving fleetwide storage utilization and efficiency by balancing load, managing failure domains, and automating device lifecycles, with direct impact on the reliability and cost-effectiveness of Google’s global storage infrastructure. Google Cloud provides enterprise-grade solutions and tools to help organizations digitally transform and build more sustainably. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The listed US compensation is $174,000–$252,000, plus a 15% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
