About The Position

The Senior Software Engineer will join Microsoft's Substrate App Platform team to evolve the platform and supporting microservices that enable internal Microsoft teams to build on Substrate. The role involves developing scalable full-stack web applications and reusable services, leading features from concept through launch, and improving system reliability, performance, and scalability. The engineer will collaborate across teams, contribute to design documentation, break down and estimate work, and provide guidance and mentorship to teammates. The position also includes serving as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) on call to monitor systems and respond to degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 4 or more years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.

• Experience shipping complex, enterprise-scale software with an emphasis on reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Proficiency in at least one modern front-end framework, such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
• Proficiency in a back-end programming language, such as Node.js, C#, or Java.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
• Experience with AI/ML concepts and their application in software development.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• A portfolio or open-source contributions demonstrating versatility across technologies, frameworks, or domains.
• Experience with a graph database such as Neo4j.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable full-stack web applications spanning front-end, backend, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
• Identify dependencies and contribute to design documentation with minimal oversight.
• Develop and implement reusable, high-quality code for services and features.
• Lead feature development from concept through launch.
• Break down large work items into smaller tasks and provide accurate estimates.
• Serve as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) on call to monitor systems, products, features, or services for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, and obtain approval to restore service for simple problems.
• Stay current with technologies to improve reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to other team members.
