About The Position

At Squaremouth, our mission is simple: make travel insurance easy. We take complicated insurance products and turn them into a clear, simple comparison experience so travelers can find the coverage that gives them peace of mind. Our engineers play a huge role in making that possible. We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our small, passionate, and fast-moving team. You’ll help us evolve our core platform, tackle complex performance challenges, and experiment with new technologies, including AI, to make our product and our team better every day. This is a fully remote role. We’re based on US Eastern Time, and we welcome candidates who can collaborate during those hours.

Requirements

• 5+ years building web applications (Ruby on Rails preferred).
• Proven ability to ship high-quality work with minimal oversight.
• Strong ownership and drive; you make things happen.
• Passion for solving problems and continuously improving.
• Comfortable working independently in a distributed team.
• 5-7 years of relevant experience
• Bachelor's degree (4-year degree)

Nice To Haves

• Building APIs (REST or GraphQL)
• Frontend frameworks like React or Next.js
• Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerization tools
• AWS services and APIs
• AI tooling

Responsibilities

• Build and ship features across our entire stack, from backend services to customer-facing interfaces.
• Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Experiment with AI tools to boost developer and user experience.
• Collaborate closely with teammates across engineering, product, and design.
• Take ownership of projects from idea to production.
• Mentor other developers and share knowledge to help the team grow.
