About The Position

Expedition Technology (EXP) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and deliver mission-critical systems for the United States Government. This role is for engineers who think beyond just writing code and understand that great systems require thoughtful architecture, maintainable software, reliable deployment pipelines, strong observability, and operational resilience. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across application development, cloud-native platforms, deployment automation, and technical leadership. EXP is an AI-enabled engineering organization that encourages the use of AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to improve productivity while maintaining high standards of technical judgment and code quality.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship - must be a US citizen to fulfill clearance requirements
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Expertise in one or more modern programming languages and the ability to quickly become productive in new technology stacks
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals independent of language or framework
  • Experience designing and delivering production software systems
  • Strong background in software architecture, system integration, and distributed systems
  • Experience building, deploying, and supporting containerized applications
  • Experience deploying and operating applications in Kubernetes-based environments
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation solutions
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging, tracing, and observability capabilities
  • Experience operating within cloud environments such as AWS
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and technical leadership skills

Nice To Haves

  • Infrastructure-as-Code experience using AWS CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar technologies
  • GitLab CI/CD experience
  • OpenTelemetry experience
  • Experience supporting highly available or mission-critical systems
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineers
  • Experience incorporating AI-assisted development tools into engineering workflows

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable software systems, services, and internal tools using Python and modern engineering practices
  • Lead architectural decisions across application, deployment, infrastructure, and operational domains
  • Design systems with maintainability, security, resiliency, scalability, and observability as first-class concerns
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation workflows
  • Design, deploy, and support cloud-native applications running in containerized and Kubernetes-based environments
  • Establish and champion engineering best practices around testing, automation, monitoring, reliability, and software quality
  • Collaborate with software engineers, platform engineers, and mission stakeholders to deliver complete solutions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across development, deployment, and production environments
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across projects and teams
  • Contribute to verification, validation, testing, and evaluation environments supporting mission needs
