About The Position

Join Microsoft Advertising’s team building and evolving a large-scale, real-time bidding platform for digital advertising across Microsoft marketplaces. The platform processes billions of auction events daily and uses AI, machine learning, and distributed systems to optimize bids and advertiser return on ad spend. In this role, you will help shape an agentic bidding platform that learns and adapts autonomously, with work influencing advertiser ROI and Microsoft advertising revenue. You will collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and product teams; build auction-critical data quality systems; and contribute to operational excellence, experimentation, technical direction, and engineering mentorship. AI Experiences employees who live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft Hub in the U.S. are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction. The role requires the ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter. The position is open for a minimum of five days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until filled.

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and at least 6 years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; or a bachelor's degree in a related field and at least 8 years of such experience; or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on experience with large-scale streaming platforms such as Apache Spark or Flink.
  • At least 4 years of experience as a technical lead, including mentoring and guiding engineers.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing and deploying large-scale distributed systems in production environments.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in machine learning operations (MLOps), including pipeline automation, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Domain knowledge and experience building large-scale distributed bidding or auction platforms.
  • Experience building real-world applications using AI techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and product teams to define requirements for agentic AI-driven bidding capabilities.
  • Architect and implement an agentic bidding platform that monitors marketplace signals, interprets advertiser and user behavior, and continuously optimizes bidding strategies.
  • Build large-scale data validation and quality frameworks for auction-critical signals.
  • Drive operational excellence, incident management, on-call readiness, and high-availability practices as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI).
  • Develop experimentation and simulation frameworks to validate agent behavior and optimize policies before live deployment.
  • Adopt new patterns, technologies, and engineering practices to improve availability, efficiency, performance, and scalability.
  • Set technical direction, mentor engineers, and foster high-quality execution, innovation, and accountability.
  • Explore emerging AI techniques, including multi-agent systems and adaptive optimization, to improve the bidding platform.
