Senior Software Engineer - Backend

About The Position

Deploy is an intelligence infrastructure platform providing access to open-source and proprietary AI models. The Senior Software Engineer - Backend will help grow the engineering team and build products and features for production. The role calls for an autonomous engineer who is willing to explore new technologies, take on challenges of scale, and balance product needs with the technology behind them. The ideal candidate has experience building core services and web-based APIs from the ground up and writes clean, maintainable code. The engineer will work across backend systems such as REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing, and distributed task and job processing. They will contribute to product and core backend improvements, maintain secure and scalable code, uphold engineering practices, and help resolve production and security issues. The position may include participation in on-call rotations as needed. The expected base salary range is $160,000–$250,000. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Stock options may be offered in addition to base pay. Employees are eligible for company-sponsored health, vision, and dental insurance, a gym membership, and paid vacation under the company’s vacation policy. A hired applicant may receive an equity grant in the form of an option to purchase stock in the future for a specified price.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
At least 5 years of experience building scalable web applications.
Experience or a strong interest in writing applications in Node.js.
Experience designing and implementing highly available distributed systems or microservices.
Experience building platforms that expose scalable backend APIs.
Deep experience working with relational databases; Postgres is preferred.
Strong belief in high code quality, automated testing, and other engineering best practices.
Attention to detail and a passion for correctness.
Comfort with ambiguity and scoping solutions with teammates.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a bias toward action.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, or improve features across backend systems, including REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing systems, and distributed task/job processing systems.
Write and maintain scalable, performant, and secure code that can be shared across platforms.
Contribute to the product and core backend systems by suggesting and executing improvements.
Improve engineering standards, tooling, processes, and security.
Practice test-driven development.
Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
Participate in on-call rotations as needed to ensure prompt and effective resolution of critical technical issues.
Use OWASP Top 10 techniques to secure code from vulnerabilities.
Maintain awareness of industry best practices for data maintenance and handling as they relate to the role.
Adhere to policies, guidelines, and procedures for protecting information assets.
Report actual or suspected security and/or policy violations or breaches to an appropriate authority.
