Senior Software Engineer
About The Position
American United is hiring Senior Engineers to design, build, and deploy cloud-based data and application solutions. The role focuses primarily on Python development on Azure, using Databricks and modern DevOps practices, with AI-assisted developer tools to improve software delivery. Depending on the team, the work may also involve Java and Spring Boot services or machine learning workloads. The position is on-site or hybrid in Phoenix, Arizona, or Fort Worth, Texas; applicants should confirm the arrangement with the hiring team. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. Visa sponsorship or transfer is not available at this time.
Requirements
- Strong, hands-on experience with Python development.
- Experience with Azure cloud technologies, including Azure ML and Azure Container Apps, or IBM Cloud / IKS.
- Working knowledge of Databricks and Delta Lake.
- Proficiency in SQL and shell scripting.
- Experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions for source control and CI/CD.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted developer tools such as GitHub Copilot.
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship or transfer is unavailable.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Java and Spring Boot.
- Experience with TensorFlow and machine learning model development or deployment.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration, including Azure Container Apps or Kubernetes / IKS.
- Familiarity with additional Azure services relevant to data and machine learning workloads.
- Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Python applications and data pipelines.
- Build and manage data solutions using Databricks and Delta Lake.
- Deploy and operate workloads on Azure, including Azure ML and Azure Container Apps, or on IBM Cloud / IKS, depending on the team.
- Write and optimize SQL queries and shell scripts for data processing and automation.
- Develop and maintain Java / Spring Boot services for select positions.
- Build and train machine learning models with TensorFlow for select positions.
- Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and GitHub Actions.
- Use AI-assisted developer tools to improve productivity, code quality, and delivery speed.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and agile team ceremonies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, and document solutions and best practices.
