About The Position

Neros is a defense technology company that designs and manufactures unmanned systems. The Senior Software Engineer will join the Application team to build tools and integrations used by operators and engineers, including mission-planning and control software, desktop tools, and connections to external command-and-control and situational-awareness systems. The role owns major software components end to end, from design through production, with an emphasis on reliability when network connectivity is intermittent or surrounding systems change.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience designing, building, and deploying production software.
  • Deep expertise in TypeScript, Python, Go, Rust, or another modern application language.
  • A track record of owning significant software end to end, from design through production and after launch.
  • Application development experience, such as cross-platform desktop applications using Electron, Qt, or similar, or modern web applications shipped to real users.
  • Solid networking fundamentals, including TCP/UDP, message framing and serialization, and designing for unreliable or high-latency links.
  • Experience working through interfaces not controlled by you, such as protocols, message formats, and APIs owned by another team or organization.
  • Experience building test harnesses or simulators for systems that could not be tested against directly.

Nice To Haves

  • Production experience in more than one language.
  • Experience with the TAK ecosystem, including ATAK plugins (Java/Kotlin), WinTAK plugins (C#), TAK Server, or Cursor on Target.
  • Experience with MAVLink or other drone or robotics protocols.
  • Experience with military or defense command-and-control or situational-awareness systems.
  • Experience with geospatial and mapping concepts, including coordinate systems, datums, and map rendering.
  • Experience building real-time operator interfaces, including live telemetry, video, and many-vehicle displays.
  • Experience with embedded or device-facing software, including applications that communicate directly with hardware.
  • Android development experience.
  • Experience flying FPV, RC, or other drones.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain applications and integrations for operators and engineers, including mission-planning and control, configuration and monitoring tools, and connections to external command-and-control and situational-awareness systems.
  • Build cross-platform desktop and web applications for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
  • Own the interfaces the software depends on, including data models, APIs, and external specifications that may be incomplete or changing.
  • Design software that behaves correctly when connectivity is intermittent or unavailable.
  • Build test harnesses and simulators to verify software without access to live partner systems or hardware.
  • Write unit and integration tests, partnering with the test organization on system and field testing.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants as part of the total compensation package.
