About The Position

Thompson Software Solutions is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop embedded flight software and Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) capabilities for an advanced missile platform. The role involves designing and integrating mission-critical software for high-performance, real-time environments where precision, reliability, and deterministic execution are essential. The engineer will contribute to the architecture, design, implementation, integration, and verification of real-time systems supporting missile guidance, navigation, and control. The work spans software, hardware, and control algorithms, including sensor processing, state estimation, trajectory management, and actuator command execution under strict timing and performance constraints. The position calls for expertise in embedded and real-time software development, including low-level hardware interfaces, multithreaded and deterministic system design, GNC algorithm integration, and safety- and mission-critical frameworks. Hardware-in-the-loop environments, simulation integration, system-level testing, and flight qualification experience are valued. The engineer will collaborate with software, GNC, and systems engineers, integration and test teams, and program leadership to mature capabilities from lab development through system qualification and flight test. Selected applicants will undergo a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Continued eligibility for classified access is required throughout employment as dictated by program needs. The position requires working onsite 100%.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline.
At least 5 years of embedded software development experience.
Experience developing embedded software in C/C++.
Experience with integration and test (I&T).
Experience with full-lifecycle software development.
Experience with flight software engineering.
Proficiency with Linux and Windows development environments.
Ability to professionally communicate project status and collaborate on technical solutions with clients and peers.
Active Secret Clearance required.
Ability to work onsite 100%.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency with Atlassian tools such as Confluence, JIRA, and Bitbucket.
Proficiency in Python development.
Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools such as Cameo and AADL.
Experience with digital simulation development and integration.
Experience with safety-critical software development practices, including DO-178C.
Experience implementing navigation, guidance, and control.
Experience implementing signal processing.
Experience developing embedded flight software.
Experience communicating and documenting complex technical designs.
Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

Develop embedded flight software for an advanced missile platform.
