About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our remote team. This role will be instrumental in leading major software IT initiatives and projects, providing technical leadership, and contributing to architectural decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, project management, and technical support, preferably within an automotive manufacturing or industrial setting. You will be responsible for writing clean, maintainable code, optimizing application performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop applications that meet both customer and internal needs. This position also involves mentoring junior engineers and communicating technical concepts effectively to diverse stakeholders. The role requires proficiency in specific technologies such as Ignition, SQL Server, OPC, and BI Analytics tools, and may involve working evenings, weekends, and providing 24-7 hotline support during assigned rotations. Up to 25% travel is required, and candidates must reside in MI, IN, KY, or AL.

Requirements

Bachelor’s (4-year) degree with a technical major, such as Information Systems, Computer Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent experience.
4 - 6 years high level technical support, implementation and development experience, preferably in an automotive manufacturing or industrial setting
3 - 5 years experience in software development, preferably with Python
3 – 5 years experience in project management
3 – 5 years experience in T-SQL development, such as SQL queries, Stored Procedures, or SQL Views
Must be proficient in Ignition by Inductive Automation
Must be proficient in SQL Server, including knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server
Must be proficient in OPC, including both OPC-UA and OPC-DA
Must be proficient in BI Analytics with tools such as Power BI, Qlik Sense, or Cognos
Familiar with ERP systems, such as CMS, SAP, or QAD
Must live in MI, IN, KY, or AL.

Nice To Haves

Experience installing, maintaining, and administering MSSQL Databases
Experience with equipment integration using OPC Servers

Responsibilities

Support and lead major software IT initiatives and projects across the organization
Lead technical discussions and contribute to architectural decisions
Conduct thorough code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices
Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide innovative solutions
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends
Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
Optimize application performance and ensure system reliability
Participate in the full software development lifecycle from planning to deployment
Design and implement sound data models to support scalability and interoperability between multiple facilities
Look for opportunities to integrate disparate systems through the use of data connections, APIs, SAML, LDAP, etc.
Work with the Engineering and Plant teams to develop applications to meet both customer and internal needs
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing guidance on technical and career development
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Accounting, Engineering, Production, Production Control, and Quality.
Participate in agile development processes and sprint planning
Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Maintain a professional demeanor in stressful situations
Work with third party vendors to ensure performance and high availability of vendor databases and applications
Collaborate with IT team to learn systems, and complete ad hoc/project work
Manage your own work and projects using modern project management tools
Support IT software systems that interface with the physical process.
Participate in a hotline rotation, which requires you to provide 24-7 hotline support during the week you are assigned to the hotline
