Senior Software Engineer
About The Position
nCino is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Global Banking Solutions engineering group. The role develops products used by financial institutions to serve consumer and business customers, with ownership across the full software lifecycle. The engineer contributes to architectural decisions, upholds code quality standards, mentors teammates, and influences technical direction and engineering practices. The position calls for strong full-stack experience, the ability to deliver in complex environments, and effective collaboration with engineering, product, and design. It also involves considering scalability and maintainability and contributing to products across nCino's global banking product lines. This is a hybrid on-site position at nCino's Global Headquarters in Wilmington, North Carolina. The engineer will help guide technical decisions, automated testing, system hygiene, release planning, and cross-team delivery. The role also uses AI tools and techniques to improve software development and product quality, and evaluates AI/ML capabilities where appropriate.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field with 5+ years of experience/proficiency, or a combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in at least one major programming language.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git and collaboration tools.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in teams.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Nice To Haves
- Demonstrated experience with client-side JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, React, or Knockout.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Agile/SCRUM and TDD development methodologies.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with AWS tools and technologies.
Responsibilities
- Provide input on architectural decisions and guide team members on best practices.
- Include automated tests in applicable tickets and mentor team members on automation strategies.
- Lead brainstorming sessions and propose innovative ideas and solutions.
- Identify opportunities and lead proof-of-concepts to demonstrate functionality or validate technical aspects.
- Consider scalability, maintainability, and best practices as solution designs take shape.
- Identify potential risks and provide mitigation strategies.
- Help choose project technologies and tools.
- Apply knowledge of a range of languages, frameworks, and tools.
- Design code that aligns with the overall service architecture.
- Keep abreast of developments in the field and introduce new approaches and technologies.
- Understand the product's data model and design.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration within and outside the team.

- Understand adoption and release barriers for the product and technology.
- Support the product manager and team in developing a strategic launch and release plan with cross-functional teams.
- Promote cross-team collaboration to deliver end-to-end solutions and support go-live activities.
- Help prioritize the system hygiene backlog, focusing on product and developer experience improvements.
- Use code reviews to prevent additional system hygiene issues and ensure adherence to coding standards.
- Lead software dependency management and monitor industry updates and trends to ensure version compatibility.
- Demonstrate technical proficiency across programming languages, frameworks, and tools relevant to the technology stack.
- Uphold code quality standards and industry best practices.
- Drive technical excellence, innovation, and delivery of high-quality software.
- Define personal continuous learning plans and provide customized plans for junior team members.
- Independently complete complex tickets, mentor team members, and facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
- Apply knowledge of ETL processes, data modeling, and data integration techniques.
- Use AI tools and techniques for code generation, testing, debugging, and optimization.
- Apply AI insights to identify patterns, automate repetitive work, and improve development efficiency and product quality.
- Evaluate and integrate AI/ML capabilities where appropriate to strengthen product functionality and user experience.
- Stay aware of emerging AI trends and best practices to inform learning and innovation.
