Senior Software Engineer (Agentic)

CCC Intelligent Solutions•Chicago, IL

About The Position

CCC Intelligent Solutions is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and operate event-driven backend systems that connect AI agents with CCC's claims platform. The role owns a product area end to end, from defining scope with product managers and data scientists through production operation, and sets the reliability standards for the systems it delivers. The engineer will design durable, multi-tenant workflows, account for failure and replay behavior, manage costs, and ensure recommendations can be traced to model calls, agent steps, and their sources. The role also covers data modeling across relational, document, and graph databases; protecting sensitive data; authoring and reviewing cross-team technical designs; mentoring engineers; and improving how the team uses and reviews code produced by agentic coding tools. The position participates in a shared on-call rotation. Success includes delivering services that meet defined SLOs as load grows, resolving difficult correctness and scale problems, and establishing practices that help the team build reliable systems.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience, including designing, shipping to customers, and operating an event-driven system in production.
  • Python and TypeScript expertise sufficient to set team conventions, plus experience with a systems language such as Rust, Go, Java, or C#.
  • Strong computer science and distributed-systems fundamentals applied in work, including concurrency, consistency, ordering, and failure behavior.
  • Experience building event-driven systems using a broker such as Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, or Service Bus, handling duplicate, late, and failed events without losing or double-processing work.
  • Experience modeling data and developing across relational, document, and graph databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Neo4j, including decisions about database fit, partition keys, consistency, and tenant isolation.
  • Experience architecting and operating systems on Azure or AWS, using CI/CD and infrastructure as code, and hands-on experience with a durable workflow engine such as Temporal or the Durable Task Scheduler.
  • Daily production-work use of an agentic coding tool such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot; ability to explain how its context and output are constrained and verified, including examples of rejected changes and why.
  • Authored technical design documents for systems spanning more than one team, used to obtain feedback and buy-in before implementation and followed by those teams during development.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical audiences, including eliciting customer needs and explaining trade-offs.

Nice To Haves

  • React and TypeScript experience, particularly delivering full-stack features involving chat, streaming, and citation-heavy AI experiences.
  • Experience with formal methods or fault-injection testing, such as Lean, TLA+, or deterministic simulation.
  • Performance engineering below the application layer, including profiling, memory, and concurrency tuning.
  • Familiarity with how AI agents connect to tools and enterprise systems through MCP, A2A, command-line tools, and microservices.
  • Exposure to insurance, claims, or automotive repair domains.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver backend services in Python and TypeScript, taking problems from initial scoping with product managers and data scientists through production operation.
  • Build and operate durable, event-driven, multi-tenant systems in which agents run within deterministic workflows; design failure handling, replay semantics, and cost profiles.
  • Own tracing and audit capabilities so model calls and agent steps are recorded and recommendations can be reconstructed and traced to their sources.
  • Own data modeling and management for claims automation across relational, document, and graph stores, ensuring sensitive data is secure and isolated.
  • Author design documents for complex systems, solicit feedback and buy-in, review other engineers' designs and code, and mentor engineers.
  • Improve the team's use of agentic coding tools through specifications, instruction files, hooks, and permission policies, and review generated code to the same standard as other code.
  • Participate in a shared on-call rotation for owned systems.
