About The Position

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer on Okta Identity Governance (OIG) Federal, you will adapt OIG to the needs of government customers. You will design, build, and maintain backend services and frontend interfaces, applying distributed-systems expertise and AI-augmented engineering practices to deliver secure, interoperable, and scalable access based on least privilege. The role supports OIG as it expands from existing high-compliance public-sector workloads into highly classified government environments. It includes cloud and on-premises infrastructure across high-compliance security baselines, operations in disconnected and air-gapped environments, and maintaining security controls, audit readiness, and continuous monitoring for classified networks. You will collaborate across engineering, product, and design; improve engineering practices and reliability; and help raise the technical bar for peer engineers.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience shipping enterprise cloud software.
  • Hands-on coding experience at scale using Java, Python, or TypeScript.
  • Experience with REST or gRPC APIs and UI automation such as Playwright, Selenium, or an equivalent tool.
  • Experience with CI/CD (CircleCI or equivalent), Docker, Kubernetes, and a major cloud platform.
  • Ability to apply AI across the software development lifecycle, evaluate and adopt AI tools judiciously, and establish practices that bring a team along.
  • Experience defining scalable backend architectures and integrating complex APIs with modern web technologies, including making and defending architectural decisions with lasting organizational impact.
  • Deep expertise building reliable, secure, enterprise-grade software in Java or another type-safe language.
  • High proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript and the ability to deliver robust frontend applications.
  • Solid understanding of web authentication and authorization flows and best practices for securing sensitive user data.
  • Active U.S. TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Poly.
  • Experience navigating Federal and DoD compliance frameworks, specifically FedRAMP and Impact Level 6 (IL6).
  • Must be on U.S. soil, defined as the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or U.S. outlying areas under FAR 2.101.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) as required by U.S. Government contracts.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience building, scaling, and troubleshooting infrastructure in restricted environments, such as FedRAMP Medium/High, DoD Impact Levels, or air-gapped systems.
  • Understanding of air-gap architectures, strict access controls, zero-trust frameworks, and data-diode or secure-transfer mechanisms.
  • Experience with Identity Governance and Administration, including access requests, certifications, entitlement management, separation of duties, or role modeling; relevant products include Okta, SailPoint, Saviynt, One Identity, Oracle, or in-house systems.
  • Broader Identity and Access Management experience, including SSO, SCIM provisioning, directory integration, or privileged access.
  • Work experience in a compliance context such as SOX, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or FedRAMP, including audit-evidence validation.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, deploy, and maintain cloud and on-premises infrastructure across high-compliance security baselines.
  • Support operations transitioning into disconnected, air-gapped, and top-secret defense environments.
  • Maintain strict security controls, audit readiness, and continuous monitoring for classified networks.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure software deployments meet governmental security standards.
  • Identify and prioritize technical debt and drive improvements in CI/CD, observability, documentation, reliability, and support processes.
  • Partner with Product and Design to understand and own desired customer outcomes.
  • Invest in peer engineers' growth and raise the technical bar of the team.
  • Design, build, and maintain backend services and frontend interfaces for government customers.
