Senior Software Engineer, Shopper Data Platform
About The Position
The Senior Software Engineer will join Attentive’s Shopper Data Platform team, which ingests, processes, and serves millions of user data points daily. The role designs, builds, and evolves high-scale systems that provide a single source of truth for user profiles and support core products, advanced segmentation, personalization, and machine learning capabilities. The engineer will own complex technical problems across the data platform and partner with engineering, product, data, and machine learning teams to deliver scalable, reliable solutions. Responsibilities include contributing to architecture, driving projects from design through production, and improving the quality, performance, and maintainability of the systems the team owns. The position focuses on foundational backend infrastructure and distributed data systems.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience, including designing and operating backend or distributed systems at scale.
- Strong experience with data ingestion, processing, and streaming architectures, including systems handling large volumes of user, event, or similarly high-cardinality data.
- Strong programming and software-design skills in Java or similar backend languages.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, scalability, reliability, performance, and observability.
- Track record of owning complex technical projects end-to-end, from design and implementation through deployment and production operation.
- Strong problem-solving and technical judgment, including evaluating tradeoffs, identifying improvements, and building pragmatic solutions that balance product needs with long-term system health.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including working across teams, mentoring engineers, and contributing to technical decisions and engineering best practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve high-scale backend systems for ingesting, processing, storing, and serving Shopper Data Platform data and attributes.
- Own complex engineering projects end-to-end, translating product and business requirements into scalable technical designs and taking them through implementation and production operation.
- Develop and improve APIs, streaming pipelines, and platform capabilities that let teams safely and efficiently use user-profile data.
- Improve the scalability, reliability, data quality, observability, and performance of systems processing large volumes of user and event data.
- Partner with product, data, and machine learning teams to deliver user attributes and data capabilities for segmentation, personalization, revenue attribution, behavioral analytics, and machine learning.
- Contribute to technical design and engineering standards through design reviews, architectural decisions, mentorship, and hands-on development.
