Senior Software Engineer
About The Position
Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, delivers care aided by technology to help people live healthier lives. The Senior Software Engineer joins a team building high-performance, scalable software solutions intended to improve health outcomes and streamline operations. The role designs, develops, and maintains critical software systems, working with cross-functional engineering teams, product management, and architectural leads. It uses modern technologies, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines to deliver high-quality, resilient solutions supporting the enterprise. The position may be performed remotely from anywhere within the U.S., subject to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, building, and deploying enterprise-grade applications.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with one or more modern object-oriented or functional programming languages, such as Java, Python, C#, or Go.
- 3+ years of experience designing and interacting with relational or non-relational database systems, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or MongoDB.
- 3+ years of experience developing RESTful APIs, web services, and microservices architecture.
- 2+ years of experience with CI/CD tools and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with Agile development practices and tools such as Scrum, Kanban, and Jira.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and test-driven development methodologies.
- Knowledge of healthcare industry data standards, security protocols, and compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support scalable software applications and microservices using modern enterprise technology stacks.
- Collaborate with software architects, product managers, and engineering peers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Write clean, maintainable, efficient, and well-documented code in accordance with enterprise engineering standards and design principles.
- Participate in peer code reviews, design discussions, and architecture planning to uphold quality standards and engineering best practices.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve performance bottlenecks, system defects, and production issues to ensure availability and stability.
- Drive automated testing practices and support continuous integration and continuous deployment processes.
- Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions for complex business challenges, emphasizing responsible AI use.
