About The Position

At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we’ve tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money, ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it’s supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we’re not just here to move money— we’re here to move our global customers forward. We’re looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that’s you and you’re ready to do the most meaningful work of your career—we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide who are united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders. About the Role Remitly Business is building a two-sided platform that helps businesses and individuals in emerging markets move money across borders. On the send side, we let businesses pay vendors, suppliers, and contractors abroad. On the receive side, we let businesses and sellers get paid in USD, hold balances in stable currency, and withdraw across Remitly's 170+ country disbursement network. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer on Remitly Business, you will build the product backend that powers this marketplace: the services, APIs, and durable money-movement workflows behind onboarding, payments, balances, and payouts. This is product engineering, not platform plumbing — you'll spend your time turning customer and business needs into correct, resilient backend systems in Go, orchestrating long-running flows on Temporal, and using AI coding agents as a genuine force multiplier. You will be a key technical voice on a senior, cross-functional team, owning features end to end and raising the quality bar for those around you. You will work in a hybrid capacity from our Seattle office.

Requirements

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of engineering experience building backend services in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong backend skills in Go, or deep experience in a comparable language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, C#) and the drive to make Go your primary language quickly.
  • Fluency with AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) as a daily working practice — you can show how you use them to ship meaningfully faster without compromising quality. (We build with AI, not AI products.)
  • Experience designing secure, scalable, performant services on cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS).
  • Experience owning large features in partnership with Product Management — breaking work into workstreams, estimating timelines, and driving them to launch — with an appetite to grow your scope and influence.
  • Clear, objective written and in-person communication, including the ability to articulate technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • workflow orchestration experience (Temporal, Cadence, Step Functions, or similar)
  • payments, fintech, or money-movement experience
  • React/TypeScript comfort

Responsibilities

  • Design and ship backend product features end to end — services, APIs, data models, and durable workflows — breaking complex work into parallel workstreams and driving it from design through launch.
  • Build money-movement flows at scale on Temporal: long-running, idempotent, observable workflows with correct ledgering, reconciliation, and compliance gating.
  • Make AI-assisted, spec-driven development (Claude Code, Codex, and similar agents) a core part of how you work — multiplying your velocity while owning the architecture, correctness, and quality that tooling cannot guarantee on its own.
  • Set the technical standard with systems that are well-tested, resilient, extensible, and scalable, and that make it easy for others to contribute.
  • Uphold our Foundational Excellence standards for security, reliability, and observability, resolving risks before they become incidents.
  • Help shape short- and long-term roadmaps, making tradeoffs across priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation.
  • Grow the team through code, design, and architecture reviews, and represent Remitly's values and technical bar in interviews.
  • Collaborate with partners across Product, Design, Analytics, Compliance, Infrastructure, and Operations to turn customer needs into scalable solutions — occasionally reaching into our React/TypeScript frontend when a feature calls for it.

Benefits

  • Flexible paid time off
  • Health, dental, and vision + 401k plan with company matching
  • Paid parental, medical, military and family care leave
  • Mental Health & Family Forming Benefits
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)
