Senior Software Engineer
About The Position
Optum is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in MuleSoft, Talend, Java, cloud, integration, automation, and AI-enabled solutions. The position supports Claims, Provider Operations, and Data Conversion functions through application development, production support, system integrations, modernization initiatives, and AI-powered operational efficiencies. The engineer will help maintain production stability, meet regulatory and client commitments, drive automation, and support continuous improvement using modern engineering and AI technologies. The role may be performed remotely from anywhere within the United States. The engineer will build and support enterprise applications and integrations, develop Talend data conversion solutions, work with Azure cloud technologies, and design AI-powered automation. The position also includes production troubleshooting and collaboration with QA, DevOps, Infrastructure, and business partners to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- 5+ years of equivalent software engineering experience.
- 5+ years of software development experience using Java and Spring Boot.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with the MuleSoft integration platform.
- 3+ years of experience with microservices architecture, REST APIs, SOAP services, and enterprise system integrations.
- 3+ years of experience with Talend ETL, data conversion, data migration, or data integration solutions.
- 2+ years of experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL.
- 2+ years of experience in Provider Management and Claims processing.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of the Salesforce platform, integration, and development.
- Experience supporting business-critical applications in a 24x7 production environment under strict SLAs.
- Strong incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis capabilities.
- Experience with Python scripting, machine learning solutions, or AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Microsoft 365 Copilot.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, observability, and operational reporting tools.
- Familiarity with CI/CD automation pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Working knowledge of Azure Cloud services and UNIX/Linux shell scripting.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, implement, and support enterprise applications using Mule, Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.
- Use enterprise-approved AI tools and frameworks to streamline workflows, automate business tasks, and drive continuous improvement across claims and provider operations.
- Develop and maintain MuleSoft integrations, REST APIs, SOAP services, and middleware components supporting enterprise business processes.
- Design and support Talend ETL and data conversion solutions for data migration, transformation, validation, and reconciliation.
- Build, deploy, and maintain cloud-native applications and services using Azure Cloud technologies.
- Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions, agentic workflows, and automation tools for complex business challenges, with emphasis on responsible AI use.
- Evaluate emerging technology trends to inform solution design and strategic modernization initiatives.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement permanent solutions to maintain system resiliency in a 24x7 environment.
- Develop operational dashboards, monitoring solutions, automated reporting, and proactive alerting capabilities.
- Collaborate with QA, DevOps, Infrastructure, and business partners to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure solutions.
