About The Position

The Windows 365 Link team is building the operating system for Windows 365 Link, which is described as the simplest and most secure way to access Windows in the cloud. This is a small, distributed, and growing team within the Windows Cloud Experiences organization, primarily based in Redmond, WA. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will contribute to building experiences using the latest advancements in the Windows platform, cloud/client computing, and web UI development. You will collaborate with Product Management and Design to develop customer-centric solutions and create prototypes for rapid learning. The role requires adaptability and the ability to contribute across various codebases and technologies. Additionally, you will enhance engineering systems, test infrastructure, and developer tools to improve team efficiency and product quality. Continuous learning from real-world usage through telemetry and customer insights will be key to shaping the product's evolution. Windows 365 Link is a purpose-built device running a streamlined version of Windows designed to connect users to their Cloud PC quickly. The goal is to create the simplest, most secure, and lowest-maintenance endpoint by reducing the complexity of managing traditional PCs or customized virtual desktop environments. The operating system is designed to be adminless, passwordless, and incapable of running local applications, with a setup time of only a few minutes, allowing for easy deployment and management by IT administrators. Windows 365 enables organizations to scale Cloud PC resources for various workloads and includes optimizations for Microsoft Teams and multimedia to ensure a responsive and seamless user experience comparable to a local operating system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • OR equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, TypeScript, or Python.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience developing Operating System components.
  • OR Windows applications.
  • 2+ years of C++ development experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
  • Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Leads by example within the team by producing extensible and maintainable code.
  • Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products.
