About The Position
Microsoft's Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture. Within Azure Data, the Usage Billing team builds and operates the systems responsible for accurately capturing, aggregating, and processing usage across Microsoft Fabric and related services. These systems ensure reliable billing, compliance, and transparency for customers at scale. The team plays a critical role in enabling a seamless commercial experience, supporting both internal reporting and customer-facing billing accuracy across the Fabric ecosystem. Come join the Azure Usage Billing team to build the next-generation usage platform to report billing for all Microsoft services and future external customers. Microsoft Azure is a fast-growing business. Azure provides customers an on-demand scalable platform to build, host and operate services through Microsoft global data centers with 200+ distinct capabilities available in 50+ regions. Our customers use different Azure services and are billed as per their usage of these services with different SKUs (Stock Keeping Unit)/offers. This is a rare opportunity to define and drive the new frontier of infrastructure to meet the demands of growing Azure usage as well as supporting Office and other Microsoft services by providing a unified, reliable, and accurate usage billing platform. This service offering will support the breadth of Azure offerings with additional capabilities for auditing, automated verification and reconciliation, analytics and much more! Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Nice To Haves
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years technical engineering experience with C# and the .Net Framework and associated ecosystem.
- Recent development experience in C++
- Experience working with data plane infrastructure and SDK creation across one or more languages.
- Experience building complex distributed systems.
- An understanding of cloud development principles and patterns.
- Communications skills and ability to work collaboratively across several teams.
- Problem-solving skills with ability to quickly adapt to new technology and go deep.
Responsibilities
- As a Software Engineer on the team, you will have the opportunity to work with various Azure technologies to build a massively scalable cloud service.
- You will develop and validate various components needed to build a robust, distributed and resilient platform for Azure Usage Billing along with helping in the design of parts of the platform.
- This includes working on service management, programmability, usage pipeline, service fundamentals like monitoring, security, performance, engineering systems, tooling and live site.
