About The Position

The Office Data Loader team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build one of the largest hyper-scale data ingestion services in the world for Office365 services. With hundreds of millions of users, Office365 generates a huge amount of data daily, which is mission-critical for understanding service quality, generating insights into feature usage and user behavior, and troubleshooting bugs. The Office Data Loader team builds a hyper-scale distributed data ingestion service that manages ingestion on over 300,000 Exchange Online machines, uploading more than 30,000 TB of data daily to distributed storage. This service also supports other Office365 products. As a fundamental data ingestion service, it plays a crucial role in ensuring data uploading meets privacy and compliance requirements, including transforming sensitive data and building privacy leak detection and resolution systems. User data empowering Machine Learning scenarios has even higher design requirements. Privacy and compliance are top priorities, reflecting Microsoft's commitment to trust.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with one or more modern programming languages, including but not limited to: .Net, Java, Python, Rust, C/C++, C#.
  • Experience in one or more of the following is a positive: Large-scale distributed systems, Systems administration and system-level programming, Virtualization and hypervisor engineering, OS engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build high quality, performant and reliable distributed ingestion service.
  • Design and build modernized telemetry/monitoring/reporting systems to get the insights of service quality.
  • Improve service performance and efficiency to reduce COST of service.
  • Work with downstream data consumer teams in different geo locations to onboard data ingestion service, and provide supports in daily work.
  • Work with privacy & compliance teams to design and build solutions to prevent/detect/resolve privacy issues, also provide guidance and best practice for engineering teams within Office365.
  • Responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of the live service and ensure quality of service including OnCall availability to support the 24/7 service.
  • Collaborate with other Office365 teams to manage their data ingestion service, provide solutions and guidance.
