About The Position

The Senior Software Engineer will join Akamai's Cloud Platform Infrastructure Group, Linux Infrastructure team. This globally distributed team develops, maintains, and improves Akamai's custom Linux distribution and kernel, including Akamai-specific extensions and settings, to support the company's global network. The role focuses on improving the performance, reliability, and security of the Akamai Cloud Platform, which operates 24/7.

Requirements

Have 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Have 3 or more years of software development experience in C, focused on Linux kernel development, and experience with scripting in Perl, Python, or Shell.
Have a solid understanding of Linux kernel internals and experience with Linux kernel debugging.
Be familiar with at least two of these subsystems: memory management, filesystems, block IO, TCP/IP stack, or KVM.
Have working knowledge of concurrent programming, data structures, algorithms, complexity analysis, and network protocols including TCP/UDP/IP, Ethernet, QUIC, and HTTP/TLS.
Be a motivated self-starter who collaborates well and can also work independently.
Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Develop new features to improve the performance, reliability, and security of the Akamai Cloud Platform.
Port existing Akamai modifications to newer Linux kernel versions.
Debug and fix issues in complex test and production environments.
Enhance build and test automation to facilitate Continuous Testing.
Collaborate with platform and application developer and test teams, as well as Akamai hardware development teams.
Work with the open source community to upstream work.
Stay current with upstream Linux kernel and operating system changes and emerging industry trends.
