Senior Software Engineer, Offerwall
About The Position
Unity is seeking an experienced, dedicated, and energetic senior developer to join its Offerwall team. The team builds maintainable, resilient systems that identify users in accordance with their privacy settings, create accounting transactions, and deliver virtual rewards. Its systems operate at very large scale, handling tens of billions of events per hour, and the team and key decision makers are distributed globally. The engineer will design and build product features, refactor and optimize existing systems, and maintain resilient backend services that process events at scale. The role includes ownership of a key part of a larger system, collaborating with product managers and related teams, and participating in code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing. The engineer will use AI-assisted tools in development and explore ways AI can improve distributed-system reliability and efficiency while applying and contributing to engineering practices. The position requires hands-on backend development with Golang or Java, experience with large-scale distributed web services and event-driven systems, and the ability to produce and analyze web-service event audit trails. Strong communication and effective use of AI-assisted development tools are also expected.
Requirements
- Hands-on backend development experience in Golang or Java.
- Experience developing and maintaining distributed web services at scale.
- Experience with event-driven systems, such as Kafka or other message queues.
- Experience producing and analyzing web-service event audit trails.
- Effective use of AI-assisted development tools while maintaining high standards for code quality, security, and reliability.
- Effective written and verbal communication, including asking questions early and working closely with teammates.
- Sufficient English knowledge for professional verbal and written exchanges; the role requires frequent, regular communication with colleagues and partners worldwide.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in ad tech or fintech, or with Ruby on Rails.
- Experience with SQL and data platforms such as BigQuery and BigTable.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, and observability tools such as Grafana or OpenTelemetry.
Responsibilities
- Design and build new product features, and refactor and optimize existing features as conditions change.
- Build and maintain resilient backend services that process events at very large scale.
- Take ownership of a key part of a large system and build domain knowledge with team support.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Work with product managers and related teams to deliver results to users.
- Use AI-assisted tools for coding, testing, debugging, and documentation, and explore AI approaches to improve distributed-system reliability and efficiency.
