Senior Software Engineer (Agentic)

CCC Intelligent Solutions•Chicago, IL

About The Position

CCC Intelligent Solutions Inc. is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and operate event-driven backend systems that connect AI agents with CCC’s claims platform. The role owns a product area end to end, from defining scope with product managers and data scientists through production operation, and sets the reliability standards for the services it delivers. The engineer will build durable, event-driven, multi-tenant systems using Python and TypeScript, with agents running as steps within deterministic workflows. The work includes designing failure handling, replay semantics, and cost profiles; maintaining traceability and audit records for model calls and agent steps; and modeling claims automation data across relational, document, and graph stores while protecting sensitive information. The role also includes authoring and reviewing technical designs and code, mentoring engineers, improving the team's use of agentic coding tools, and participating in a shared on-call rotation. Success includes delivering production services against established SLOs, solving correctness and scale challenges, and helping others build reliable systems.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience, including designing, shipping to customers, and operating an event-driven system in production.
  • Proficiency in Python and TypeScript sufficient to set team conventions, plus a background in a systems language such as Rust, Go, Java, or C#.
  • Strong computer science and distributed-systems fundamentals applied at work, including concurrency, consistency, ordering, and system failure behavior.
  • Experience building event-driven systems using a broker such as Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, or Service Bus, handling duplicate, late, and failed events without losing or double-processing work.
  • Experience modeling data and developing across relational, document, and graph databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Neo4j, including decisions about database fit, partition keys, consistency, and tenant isolation.
  • Experience architecting and operating systems on Azure or AWS, with CI/CD and infrastructure as code, and hands-on experience with a durable workflow engine such as Temporal or Durable Task Scheduler.
  • Ability to explain how you constrain an agentic coding tool’s context and verify its output, supported by daily use of Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools on production work, including examples of changes rejected and why.
  • Experience authoring technical design documents for systems spanning more than one team, using them to obtain feedback and buy-in before implementation, and having those teams build to the designs.
  • Clear writing and communication with technical and non-technical audiences, including eliciting customers’ underlying problems and explaining trade-offs.

Nice To Haves

  • React and TypeScript experience delivering full-stack features, especially chat, streaming, and citation-heavy AI experiences.
  • Experience with formal methods or fault-injection testing, such as Lean, TLA+, or deterministic simulation.
  • Performance work below the application layer, including profiling and memory and concurrency tuning.
  • Familiarity with how AI agents access tools and enterprise systems through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, command-line tools, and microservices.
  • Exposure to insurance, claims, or automotive repair domains.

Responsibilities

  • Own backend service delivery in Python and TypeScript, from ambiguous problem definition and scoping with product managers and data scientists through production operation.
  • Build and operate durable, event-driven, multi-tenant systems in which agents run as steps within deterministic workflows.
  • Design failure modes, replay semantics, and cost profiles for systems before they encounter production load.
  • Own tracing and auditing for the product area, recording model calls and agent steps so recommendations can be reconstructed and traced to sources.
  • Own the modeling and management of claims automation data across relational, document, and graph stores.
  • Ensure security and isolation of sensitive data.
  • Write design documents for complex systems, solicit feedback and buy-in, review other engineers’ designs and code, and mentor engineers in the area.
  • Improve the team's use of agentic coding tools by refining specifications, instruction files, hooks, and permission policies, and reviewing generated code to the same standard as other code.
  • Participate in a shared on-call rotation for owned systems.
