About The Position

This role focuses on owning scoped feature or model delivery through collaborative engineering teams. The Senior Software Engineer will manage implementation, iteration, testing, and ongoing support for assigned services, APIs, user interfaces, or ML model components, operating with a product-driven mindset and aligning outcomes with broader platform, system, and domain objectives. The position involves driving the full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD deployments, automated testing, observability, monitoring, and maintenance, as well as building automation scripts and implementing telemetry features. A key aspect of the role is integrating AI agents and ML components, leveraging GenAI tools, and applying object-oriented programming principles. The engineer will also assist in converting high-level designs into detailed designs, evaluating trade-offs, and designing scalable, secure, and maintainable software systems aligned with Walmart’s standards. This includes participating in design reviews, mentoring peers, and engaging stakeholders to define and refine business or user problems, translating them into technical requirements and success metrics. The role also involves conducting complex maintenance, monitoring application performance, ensuring adherence to project milestones, and promoting engineering excellence through continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. Technical ownership and responsibility for deliverables, ensuring quality standards and business objectives are met, are crucial.

Requirements

Building Android applications using Kotlin, Android SDK or Gradle
Android framework components and their lifecycles
Designing scalable Android applications using modern architecture (MVVM)
Integrating Android applications with backend services using REST APIs
Writing unit and UI tests using Mockito, JUnit, and Espresso
Git or CD/CI pipelines and modern Android development workflows
Mobile app monitoring and stability tools such as Firebase Crashlytics for crash reporting and diagnostics
Using Git (GitHub, Gerrit, Bitbucket) for branching, merging, conflict resolution, and code reviews
Identifying and fixing memory leaks and performance issues using Android Profiler, Traceview, and Lint
Creating sequence and flow diagrams to align feature design with architecture
Working with local app databases using Room and SQLite, including writing SQL queries
Working with backend databases like SQL Server
Optimizing network calls and minimizing background processing to improve application performance and battery efficiency

Conducts code structure reviews and supports ongoing defect management and debugging processes.
Integrates AI agents and ML components using internal and external APIs to enhance software intelligence.
Leverages GenAI tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve development velocity and innovation.
Applies object-oriented programming principles and documentation-based coding practices to ensure modularity, maintainability, and consistency.
Assists in converting high-level designs into detailed designs using mock screens, pseudo code, and functional logic.
Evaluates trade-offs and designs scalable, secure, and maintainable software systems aligned with Walmart’s standards.
Participates in design reviews and ensures the implementation of appropriate design patterns and principles.
