The Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, documenting, maintaining, and enhancing complex and diverse software systems based upon documented requirements. These systems may include processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, business management information systems, and systems incorporating data repositories, data transport services, and application and systems development and monitoring. The role involves working individually or as part of a team, reviewing and testing software components for adherence to design requirements, documenting test results, and resolving software problem reports. The engineer will utilize appropriate software development and design methodologies, provide input to software components of system design (including hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, OSS/COTS/GOTS utilization, and requirements analysis), and possess capabilities such as analyzing user requirements, debugging existing software, designing and coding new software, writing documentation, integrating software, and developing data queries. Experience with agile development processes, source code control systems (like Git), and relational/non-relational database applications is expected. The role may also involve serving as a team lead, developing or implementing algorithms, developing and executing test procedures, developing software solutions by analyzing system performance, modifying existing software, designing software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models, and developing cloud-based solutions. Experience with Java development using Eclipse IDE, J2EE applications, collaboration tools (like Atlassian), continuous integration, container technologies (like Docker), Unix shell scripting, event-driven or data-driven analytics, and complex algorithms is also mentioned. The position requires performing quality control, recommending process improvements, overseeing software development teams, conferring with system and hardware engineers, coordinating software installation, and recommending new technologies.
