About The Position

Microsoft Copilot is transforming productivity across Microsoft 365 by bringing AI-powered experiences to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office applications. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to improve the performance, scalability, and architecture of Office web applications. You will work across large codebases to optimize startup time, responsiveness, and overall customer experience, using profiling, telemetry, experimentation, and modern engineering practices. This role requires strong technical leadership and the ability to leverage agentic AI to accelerate engineering work, including system analysis, implementation, testing, debugging, and large-scale code improvements, while maintaining high standards for quality, security, and performance. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree with 6+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience leading complex, cross-team engineering initiatives and driving technical decisions.
  • Experience improving performance, scalability, and reliability of large-scale web applications.
  • Experience modernizing large codebases through architectural improvements, refactoring, and performance optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage agentic AI for software development, code transformation, testing, debugging, and engineering productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Drive performance, scalability, and architectural improvements across Office web applications.
  • Identify and resolve performance issues using telemetry, profiling, and experimentation.
  • Lead complex cross-team engineering initiatives and technical design efforts.
  • Apply agentic AI to accelerate development, testing, debugging, and code modernization.
  • Partner across Microsoft to deliver high-impact customer experiences.
  • Establish engineering practices that improve quality, reliability, and performance.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to technical excellence across the organization.
  • Participate in on-call support and drive resolution of production issues.
