Senior Software Engineer

Ally•Detroit, MI
•$85,000 - $150,000

About The Position

The Senior Software Engineer will help migrate SmartCash, Ally Financial’s dealer money movement and wholesale settlement platform, to AWS while maintaining a production platform that processes approximately $500 million per day in ACH transactions across Ally’s national auto dealer network. The platform operates seven days a week under strict daily processing windows and has no tolerance for failure. The migration program’s architecture and proof-of-concept work are complete, and the team is moving into execution. The role spans cloud infrastructure, Java application development, database migration, batch processing, and feature development. Responsibilities include migrating application and data tiers to AWS; re-platforming Spring Batch jobs from OpenShift to AWS Batch on ECS Fargate; moving WebLogic and JBoss applications to ECS Fargate containers; migrating Oracle 19c to Aurora PostgreSQL; archiving data to S3 Glacier; and deploying a React SPA to S3 with CloudFront. Infrastructure is managed with Terraform through Ally’s PCE GitLab pipeline. The engineer will maintain and extend nightly weekday Spring Batch processes that generate ACH files, GL extracts, retail and wholesale feeds, and CBA reports; respond to incidents; and eventually move these jobs to AWS Batch without disrupting production. The engineer will also contribute to ongoing product features and use generative AI tools as a standard development instrument.
