We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong experience delivering AWS-based applications and APIs, who can design reliable integrations and contribute to scalable workflow solutions. Appian is the primary workflow platform used by the team. Prior Appian experience is beneficial but not required—experience delivering workflow or platform-based solutions, along with a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new technologies, is essential. In this role, you will own the technical design and delivery of end-to-end workflow solutions, and collaborate with multiple engineering teams to ensure reliable, scalable integrations. Success in this position requires effective communication skills, sound engineering judgment, and a passion for delivering high-quality, production-ready systems.

Requirements

  • Strong experience designing, developing, deploying, and supporting backend systems using Java or equivalent programming languages such as Python.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services including S3, SQS, Lambda, EC2, ECS/Fargate, CloudWatch, IAM, and related services.
  • Strong experience building and supporting integrations with AWS-hosted applications using REST APIs and event-driven patterns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience designing and developing REST APIs and working with microservices-based architectures.
  • Experience conducting design reviews and contributing to engineering standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ownership mindset for production support.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for problem solving and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in regulated or highly controlled environments, including financial services, compliance, or risk management domains.
  • Experience designing and implementing workflow automation and business process solutions.
  • Applicants for employment in US must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (e.g., H1-B visa, F-1 visa (OPT), TN visa or any other non-immigrant work status)

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and support enterprise workflow applications using the Appian platform.
  • Design and implement scalable integrations between Appian and AWS-based applications using REST APIs, events, and secure service-to-service communication patterns.
  • Collaborate with backend, cloud, and platform engineering teams to align integration standards, security models, and operational standards.
  • Translate business and operational requirements into scalable, maintainable workflow and integration solutions.
  • Conduct design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback that improves quality and consistency.
  • Evaluate tradeoffs between short-term delivery and long-term maintainability.
  • Take accountability for technical debt and reliability within your area of ownership.
  • Contribute to workflow and integration standards across the Workflow Solutions team.
  • Support production issue troubleshooting, incident resolution, and root-cause analysis for enterprise workflow applications and integrations.
  • Maintain the performance, reliability, and overall health of the Appian platform in partnership with Appian support, ensuring stable, well-performing workflows across the enterprise.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of learning and accountability.
