About The Position

We are building the successor to our current platform, which serves over four hundred colleges, universities, and organizations, including Harvard, UCLA, and Florida State, with four and a half million users annually. This role is focused on application and platform architecture for a new single multi-tenant system, not infrastructure or CMS development. The engineer will own critical architectural decisions and contribute approximately seventy percent to hands-on engineering and thirty percent to architecture.

Requirements

• Eight or more years of shipping production software.
• Real depth in .NET and C#.
• Experience designing and shipping multi-tenant software with the ability to explain the chosen model.
• Proficiency in relational data modeling and query performance optimization beyond basic indexing.
• Experience with event-driven and messaging architecture, including understanding when not to use it.
• Experience evolving a production system while it is in use.
• Ability to write design documents that engineers can act upon.
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Own architectural decisions for the new multi-tenant system.
• Design and implement multi-tenancy features including isolation models, tenant context propagation, tenant-scoped caching, and resource isolation.
• Define domain boundaries and service separation.
• Develop event and messaging architecture (queues, event buses, streaming, synchronous calls) with delivery guarantees and idempotency.
• Address data at scale challenges including partitioning, lock contention, read/write separation, and event-fed read models.
• Optimize caching and identity throughput, including invalidation under tenant scoping and provisioning for high enrollment periods.
• Create technical designs, architecture decision records, and forward-only migrations.
• Conduct code reviews to maintain high technical standards.
• Perform hands-on engineering tasks.
