About The Position

Exiger is seeking Senior Software Engineers (L4) to build and scale backend services that power its 1ExigerAI platform. The role focuses on services supporting capabilities such as real-time alerting, workflow automation, and supply chain investigation tools. Engineers work with a collaborative team to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performing software that helps customers identify risks and streamline complex processes. This is a hands-on individual contributor role. The engineer will own meaningful projects from technical design through deployment and production support, contribute to technical decisions and architecture, and may guide or mentor other engineers. The team uses AI-assisted development tools and is evolving AI-enabled workflows across development, testing, code review, deployment, and automation. Work takes place in a fast-paced environment using Kanban, continuous delivery, and daily deployments. The role is remote or hybrid in McLean, Virginia; New York, New York; or Richmond, Virginia. The backend stack includes Java and Spring Boot, with PostgreSQL, AWS, Kubernetes, and messaging and observability tools.

Requirements

Strong hands-on software engineering experience focused on backend development and production-grade applications.
Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, or strong experience with comparable backend technologies and willingness to work in the core stack.
Experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
Solid understanding of databases, data modeling, and SQL.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software development practices.
Understanding of system design principles, application performance, scalability, and reliability.
Experience troubleshooting production issues and supporting applications in live environments.
Familiarity with messaging and asynchronous processing technologies such as Kafka, ActiveMQ, or Redis.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools, or a strong interest in incorporating AI into everyday engineering workflows.
Strong problem-solving skills, technical curiosity, and commitment to writing clean, maintainable code.
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-moving environment.
Strong ownership and accountability, with a willingness to continuously learn and improve.
Ability to serve as a technical go-to person for a team or product area and guide the design and implementation of complex systems.
Experience designing reusable components, services, and architectural patterns that improve engineering efficiency and scalability.
Ability to navigate complex technical tradeoffs and influence architecture and engineering best practices.
Strong ownership of system quality, reliability, and long-term maintainability.

Responsibilities

Design, build, test, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for the 1ExigerAI platform.
Develop and enhance product capabilities, including real-time alerting, workflow builders, and supply chain investigation tools.
Own features and projects from technical design through development, deployment, and production support.
Collaborate with engineering, product management, and design to translate business requirements into reliable technical solutions.
Build and maintain cloud-native applications using microservices, containerization, and modern infrastructure practices.
Contribute to system design, architectural improvements, and technical decisions that improve scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Troubleshoot production issues, improve observability, and identify opportunities to strengthen system reliability.
Use AI-powered development tools such as Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot throughout the software development lifecycle.
Help improve AI-enabled engineering workflows for development, testing, code reviews, deployment, and automation.
Participate in a collaborative engineering environment using Kanban, continuous delivery, and daily deployments.
Contribute to code reviews, share technical knowledge, and maintain high standards for engineering quality.
Guide and mentor other engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving.
