Senior Software Engineer - Serverless
About The Position
Runware is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to turn ambitious ideas into production systems that improve the developer experience and deliver business impact. The role spans backend APIs and orchestration, SDKs, dashboards, and developer tools, with ownership from understanding user needs and designing solutions through delivery. The engineer will help make building with AI faster, simpler, and more creative. The position combines technical depth, product intuition, and leadership. It involves building robust, performant systems; shaping technical direction; collaborating across the company; and mentoring engineers. The role focuses on Runware’s AI platform, including inference orchestration and workload optimisation, integration and optimisation of image and video models, and support for additional modalities such as audio and custom LLMs. Runware is remote-first and seeks someone in a European time zone. The team meets in person twice a year and has core hours for collaboration, with flexibility outside those blocks. The company describes a fast-paced environment with a high quality bar and an emphasis on sustainable performance and time to recharge after major releases.
Requirements
- Deep experience building distributed and high-performance systems.
- Strong programming skills in PHP or Go.
- Proven track record of designing and delivering scalable backend systems and APIs.
- Understanding of asynchronous workloads, queues, and streaming data.
- Experience working with cloud and bare-metal infrastructure.
- Excellent grasp of system design, performance optimisation, and scalability principles.
- Clear communicator who can lead technical projects and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Passion for mentoring others and raising engineering standards.
- Proactive problem-solver who balances short-term progress with long-term vision.

Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of core systems powering Runware’s AI platform.
- Build and evolve backend APIs, SDKs, and developer tools to make AI integration seamless.
- Integrate and optimise image and video models while supporting new modalities such as audio and custom LLMs.
- Architect scalable, reliable systems for inference orchestration and workload optimisation.
- Partner with platform and infrastructure teams to improve performance, reliability, and observability.
- Shape technical direction through architectural discussions and long-term planning.
- Mentor engineers through code and design reviews, fostering technical excellence and growth.
- Contribute to documentation, tooling, and SDKs that enhance the developer experience.
- Drive initiatives that improve how the platform is built, deployed, and maintained.
