Senior Software Engineer
About The Position
Responsible at an advanced level for software development and technical requirements gathering. Independently completes work within banking technology standards and contributes to the stability and resiliency of banking technology throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). The role supports customer-facing retail banking applications and digital customer maintenance capabilities. It is suited to a full-stack engineer with a strong front-end focus and experience developing modern web applications using Angular and .NET. The position offers the opportunity to influence customer experience through the design, development, enhancement, and support of critical banking platforms. Engineers are expected to use approved AI-assisted development tools and practices in their daily workflow to improve software quality, accelerate delivery, enhance knowledge sharing, and increase engineering effectiveness.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree and at least 5 years of systems analysis and/or application development work experience; or a bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of such experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years of education and/or relevant work experience, including at least 3 years of systems analysis and/or application development work experience.
- Advanced proficiency in at least one relevant programming language.
- Experience developing modern web applications using Angular and/or other front-end frameworks.
- Experience developing applications in a .NET environment.
- Experience building and supporting full-stack applications.
- Experience working with REST APIs, web services, and modern application architecture.
- Ability to analyze technical requirements and translate them into scalable software solutions.
- Experience participating in code reviews and following software engineering best practices.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools for software engineering activities such as coding, testing, troubleshooting, code review, or documentation.

Responsibilities
- Independently analyze, design, develop, and support applications within the approved SDLC to solve business needs while minimizing risk through clean and resilient code.
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance customer-facing web applications using Angular, .NET, and related technologies.
- Participate in developing full-stack solutions, applying front-end expertise to deliver intuitive and scalable user experiences.
- Write organized, clean, efficient, and secure source code in at least one programming language, using appropriate data structures and algorithms to solve business problems.
- Use approved AI-assisted development tools for software design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and problem-solving, while retaining ownership of solution quality, security, and accuracy.
- Use source code management tools to manage and deploy code and applications, comply with SDLC policies, and support merge conflict resolution.
- Independently analyze and validate technical and business requirements for completeness, accuracy, feasibility, and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to document and communicate technical designs, implementation approaches, and dependency requirements.
- Participate in architecture and technical design discussions, contributing to technical solutions, integration patterns, and engineering best practices.
- Conduct code and pull request reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to engineering standards, code quality, and change management practices.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, development practices, and AI-assisted development tools, and recommend ways to improve performance, maintainability, developer productivity, and customer experience.
- Contribute to innovation by evaluating and adopting new technologies, including AI-enabled solutions, where they provide measurable business or engineering value.
- Follow company risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite, and identify risk-related issues requiring escalation.

- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and applicable issues raised by external regulators.
