About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead at NinjaOne, you are a highly experienced and influential engineer who helps shape the technical direction of the company. You operate with a high degree of autonomy and are trusted to tackle complex, high-impact projects that span multiple teams, ensuring technical excellence and driving best practices across your domain. You’ll take ownership of large-scale technical initiatives, making sure our software architecture is scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business goals. You’ll proactively address challenges, mentor engineers, and play a significant role in setting technical standards across the organization. As part of a team of engineers and technology experts, you’ll deliver mission-critical services that help our customers manage, protect, and maintain millions of endpoints and servers. You’ll design and develop high-availability software systems that support our global operations. NinjaOne is built on Java, Kotlin, C++, Golang and Postgres; supporting millions of user endpoints and running as a scalable cloud service in AWS. Knowing large-scale datastore bottlenecks, asynchronous application design and client-server architecture will help you.

Requirements

12+ years of Java software development, particularly for product applications
5+ years designing and operating highly scalable systems
Proven experience solving complex system design challenges at scale, including identifying bottlenecks, quantifying improvements (throughput/latency), and clearly articulating your personal contributions
Hands-on production experience implementing distributed-systems patterns such as Saga, CQRS, outbox, circuit breaker, bulkhead, event sourcing, and idempotency keys, including handling partial failures and building compensation logic
Expertise in API design and RESTful services, with experience in frameworks like Spring (Spring Boot) or Jersey
Experience building systems that integrate with APIs, webhooks, and third-party platforms, and designing extensible integration architectures that don’t require rewriting core logic for each new integration
Proficiency in relational database design and development, including schema and data modeling, normalization vs. denormalization, indexing and partitioning, and efficient querying of large tables
Experience debugging complex database issues (performance, data integrity, migrations) and evaluating relational vs. non-relational stores for new systems
Strong command of object-oriented programming (OOP) design principles and practices
In-depth knowledge of quality testing practices and a track record of delivering high-quality software
Active, practical use of AI tools across coding, testing, debugging, and code review, with a sound approach to validating AI-generated code before it ships
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience

Bring deep system design expertise to ensure the long-term sustainability and scalability of our systems, balancing technical debt, performance, and business needs.

Partner with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams to align on technical decisions and ensure solutions are both practical and forward-looking.
Mentor and elevate engineers across the organization, guiding best practices and helping establish technical standards that raise the bar for the entire engineering team.
Take full ownership of complex, multi-team initiatives, proactively identifying challenges, driving resolutions, and incorporating insights from customer support and operational data.
Champion and implement quality assurance practices to deliver robust, high-performance software that meets our customers’ high expectations.
Use AI tools in your daily workflow and help your team adopt AI-assisted practices responsibly and effectively.
