About The Position

Rips is a fast-growing mobile collectibles trading card app. This role involves building and owning core product features in React Native and Expo. The focus is on creating a high-quality user experience with attention to detail, correctness, latency, and polish, as users trade real value within the app. The engineer will be responsible for features end-to-end, ensuring native-like interaction quality and making sound technical decisions. As part of a small team, the engineer will design, ship, and own their work.

Requirements

• Strong mobile engineering background.
• React Native and Expo experience is ideal, or native iOS or Android engineers looking to move into React Native.
• Real ownership of consequential work; ability to discuss features designed, shipped, and maintained.
• Deep platform understanding; knowledge of what is happening on the device and ability to debug framework issues.
• Craftsmanship: opinions on interaction feel and ability to implement them.
• A track record of creating leverage by establishing architecture and guardrails for other engineers.
• Ability to articulate and defend a technical direction.
• Fluency with AI as a tool, understanding and being able to explain all code shipped.
• Ability to work in person at Triumph’s headquarters at Levi’s Plaza in San Francisco 5 days a week.

Responsibilities

• Build and own core product features in React Native and Expo, from design discussion through launch and iteration.
• Take the user experience seriously: motion, gesture, transitions, perceived performance, and the small details that separate an app people tolerate from one they open every day.
• Go below the abstraction when the problem requires it, including native modules, platform APIs, rendering behavior, and build configuration.
• Partner with backend engineers on API and data model design, pushing back when a contract makes the client worse.
• Own performance and reliability for what you ship, including startup time, frame rate under load, and crash-free sessions.
• Raise the floor for the team by setting patterns that make the next feature faster and the right approach obvious to others.
