Senior Software Engineer - Mobile

Human Interest
•$190,000 - $230,000

About The Position

Human Interest is a high-growth fintech company working to make retirement benefits accessible to employees at small and medium-sized businesses. The Senior Software Engineer will join the Mobile team in a high-impact, hands-on role building the company’s mobile app experience and establishing its mobile engineering foundation. As a founding engineer on a newly formed team, this person will create the app’s architecture, pipelines, release process, quality assurance practices, telemetry, and approach to native versus cross-platform development, without legacy constraints. The role involves building mobile experiences for employees to understand and grow their retirement savings, with future capabilities for 401(k) plan administrators. The engineer will partner with Product, Design, backend engineers, and an engineering manager, and will own outcomes such as app store ratings, crash-free sessions, and reliable delivery. AI coding agents are expected to be a regular part of the development lifecycle; the engineer will direct them and help develop the team’s agentic workflows while ensuring the resulting app is fast, secure, accessible, and maintainable.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience building and maintaining software in production.
  • Experience shipping and owning consumer mobile apps through multiple App Store and Play Store release cycles.
  • Deep expertise in native mobile development with Swift and SwiftUI or Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, or cross-platform frameworks such as React Native, Flutter, or Kotlin Multiplatform.
  • Strong knowledge of mobile architecture, performance, and testing.
  • Experience owning features end to end in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Hands-on, regular use of agentic coding tools such as Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor on production work.
  • Sound judgment about where AI is useful and the ability to ensure agent-generated code is correct, secure, and well-tested.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, concurrency, and asynchronous programming.
  • Understanding of mobile architecture trade-offs, performance tuning, device farms, automated UI testing, client-side telemetry, and API contract design.
  • Commitment to accessibility and writing well-tested, maintainable code.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Strong product sense, attention to user-interface craft, proactive ownership, and an empathetic approach to solving customer problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience taking a mobile app from 0 to 1.
  • Experience in fintech, security-sensitive applications, or regulated domains.
  • Desire to work with the backend stack of Node, TypeScript, Kotlin, and AWS.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is typically required.

Responsibilities

  • Build polished iOS and Android experiences for employees managing retirement savings and, eventually, plan administrators managing plans.
  • Architect a modern, modular mobile codebase with modern concurrency, clean dependency management, and testability.
  • Use AI coding agents throughout the development lifecycle and help shape the team’s agentic workflows and quality standards.
  • Develop mobile solutions for accurate, real-time balances, secure authentication and biometrics, and protection of sensitive financial data.
  • Own release operations, including CI/CD, phased App Store and Play Store rollouts, feature flags, and automated UI testing.
  • Improve crash-free rates and app ratings through reliable delivery and ongoing iteration.
  • Partner with Design on animations, haptics, data visualization, and accessibility.
  • Partner with backend engineers on API contracts and backend-driven UI, and help define the company’s native and cross-platform direction.
  • Own features end to end, from technical design through release and iteration.
  • Mentor through code reviews and contribute to raising the engineering quality bar.
