About The Position

Ditto is redefining how data moves at the edge. Our mission is to make it seamless for developers to build resilient, real-time applications, regardless of network conditions. Whether you're in a stadium, airplane, or remote military base, Ditto's peer-to-peer sync engine ensures devices stay connected and data stays consistent, even without internet. With more than $145 million in funding and trusted by organizations like Chick-fil-A, Delta Airlines, and the U.S. military, Ditto powers mission-critical experiences across aviation, retail, travel, hospitality, defense, and more. As a globally distributed, fast-growing startup, we’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive team that reflects the wide range of perspectives needed to solve the world’s hardest connectivity problems. Ditto builds the world's leading edge sync platform — enabling applications to share data peer-to-peer, with or without internet connectivity. Our technology powers mission-critical systems across industries where reliability and real-time sync aren’t nice-to-haves, they’re non-negotiable. We work with some of the most demanding organizations in the world, including defense agencies, first responders, and enterprise customers who operate at the edge. We’re looking for a Staff Platform Engineer (IC5) to lead the technical vision and architecture of our enterprise multi-cloud Kubernetes platform. This is the person who sets technical direction for the Platform team, defines durable engineering patterns that scale across cloud providers, and provides architectural leadership that multiplies the team’s output. This role sits on the critical path for our next two major product releases. The decisions you make don’t stop at Platform Engineering — your patterns shape how the company’s infrastructure works across all customer-facing engineering. You’ll mentor P3/P4 engineers and leave a technical legacy that lasts well past any single project.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of engineering experience with significant depth in cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and distributed systems
  • Hands-on expertise across multiple major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) — production-grade deployment and operational experience across at least two
  • Demonstrated ability to make high-confidence, high-impact architectural decisions independently and own the outcomes
  • Experience designing multi-tenant, multi-cloud infrastructure with strong security and compliance posture
  • Proven track record of defining engineering standards and patterns that other engineers build on
  • Strong background in identity federation, access management, and secure cluster operations
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code, GitOps, and modern platform engineering practices
  • Ability to lead through influence — you can drive alignment across engineering teams without a direct reporting line
  • Track record of mentoring and leveling up mid-level engineers

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Teleport or similar zero-trust access infrastructure
  • Background in kubeadm or self-managed Kubernetes and migrating clusters to managed offerings
  • Familiarity with BYOC (Bring Your Own Cloud) deployment models and enterprise customer environments
  • Experience operating in compliance-sensitive or enterprise security review contexts
  • Prior work at Staff or Principal level with org-wide architectural impact

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and implementation of managed Kubernetes infrastructure powering all enterprise customer deployments, ensuring consistent behavior and operational excellence across AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • Own the systems that provision, organize, and manage cloud accounts and subscriptions across providers, including resource governance, policy enforcement, and multi-tenant isolation
  • Architect and maintain the access management platform that provides secure, auditable cluster access for operations teams, including automated emergency access and compliance controls
  • Design and implement the networking layer that routes traffic into customer environments, replacing legacy components with cloud-native patterns integrated into each provider’s ecosystem
  • Own the infrastructure lifecycle systems that provision, configure, and migrate Kubernetes environments, eliminating technical debt by transitioning legacy deployments to modern managed infrastructure
  • Define and document architectural patterns, technical decision-making frameworks, and engineering standards that govern how multi-cloud infrastructure is built at Ditto
  • Mentor P3/P4 engineers, helping them develop cross-cloud expertise and architectural instincts so they can operate with greater autonomy
  • Drive cross-functional alignment on major technical decisions across Platform and Software Engineering without relying on direct authority

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, equity, and benefits
  • Flexible remote-first culture with in-person gatherings
  • health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance
  • 401(k)
  • flexible spending accounts
  • flexible time off
