About The Position

Seed-stage AI security startup is hiring a senior backend/platform engineer to help build the runtime control layer for enterprise AI agents. This is a first key engineering hire role with direct access to the CTO/founding team, high ownership, and a path to help build the engineering team. The company is building infrastructure that helps regulated enterprises safely deploy AI agents by controlling agent access to tools, identities, workflows, and sensitive data.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend/platform engineering experience
  • Strong Go preferred; Java or Rust also relevant
  • Experience building distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, networking, gateway/proxy systems, identity/auth, or security infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, APIs, and production operations
  • Comfortable in an early-stage startup with ambiguity and high ownership
  • Product-minded, able to take vague problems and turn them into working software

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at infrastructure, cybersecurity, networking, developer tools, or cloud companies is a strong plus
  • Not a fit for Frontend-heavy or purely full-stack profiles
  • Python-only backend experience without Go/Java/Rust systems work
  • Consumer-only product backgrounds without infrastructure/security/cloud depth
  • Big-tech-only candidates with no startup or high-ownership environment experience

Responsibilities

  • Build backend services for agent connections, tool access, execution records, and control workflows
  • Own production paths where authentication, state, latency, and failure handling matter
  • Design APIs and data models that make agent activity reliable and understandable at scale
  • Work on cloud, hybrid, and on-prem deployment patterns
  • Help shape product and technical direction from an early stage
  • Set a high engineering bar through design, implementation, code review, and mentorship

Benefits

  • Base salary: $175-250K
  • Equity: meaningful early-stage equity
