This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining middleware components, APIs, and platform services that support the Chamberlain Group’s myQ ecosystem. The position also includes supervising and leading a team of 2-3 software engineers, assigning tasks, reviewing code, and mentoring team members. Work will be conducted using Agile methodologies (Scrum) for planning, development, testing, and delivery. The engineer will serve as a primary point of contact for interactions with product owners and various functional teams, participate in technical assessments, and collaborate with architects and senior engineers on software designs. Maintaining domain-specific knowledge of the myQ middleware environment and contributing to technical discussions are key aspects of this role. Collaboration with other domain experts (infrastructure, database, front-end) is expected, along with ensuring adherence to coding standards, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud development best practices. Mentoring junior engineers and ensuring compliance with information security standards (ISO 27001) and data-protection policies are also responsibilities. The role requires maintaining professional and technical knowledge and contributing to the overall team effort.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 5 years of experience in Software Development or a closely related occupation involving the design, development, testing, and maintenance of middleware, backend, or enterprise software systems
  • Working with the Microsoft technology stack, including .NET, C#, Azure, SQL, and Visual Studio.
  • Experience with GIT, NoSQL databases, and messaging systems (e.g., RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, or AWS EventBridge).
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP), SOLID principles, RESTful services, dependency injection, and cloud development.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools, frameworks, and deployment processes.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and experience participating in iterative software development cycles.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain middleware components, APIs, and platform services that support the Chamberlain Group’s myQ ecosystem.
  • Supervise and lead 2–3 software engineers (onshore and offshore), assigning development tasks, reviewing code, and mentoring team members to ensure adherence to technical standards and timely completion of deliverables.
  • Work using Agile methodologies (Scrum) to plan, develop, test, and deliver middleware features and platform enhancements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and Scrum team representative for interactions with product owners, front-end, middleware, DevOps, and firmware functional teams.
  • Participate in technical assessment, scoping, and management of code changes for new business requirements, product enhancements, and change requests.
  • Analyze requirements and collaborate with architects and senior engineers to produce thoughtful software designs of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Maintain domain-specific knowledge of key software application features, frameworks, and components within the myQ middleware environment.
  • Lead and contribute to technical discussions, including design reviews, pull requests, and other engineering forums, to ensure alignment with best practices and architectural standards.
  • Collaborate with other Chamberlain domain experts—such as infrastructure, database, and front-end engineers—to design and develop new features and platform enhancements.
  • Ensure adherence to coding standards, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud development best practices to create reusable, maintainable code.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to junior engineers to increase the technical capability of the middleware development team.
  • Ensure compliance with information security standards (ISO 27001) and company data-protection policies.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to the overall team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.
