About The Position

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. As a Software Engineer on our team, you will be a core contributor to the products and infrastructure we support. We are a high-velocity, hypothesis-driven group that values rapid prototyping, product testing, and continuous learning. You will be encouraged to pitch ideas, hack together prototypes for weekly demos, and collaborate with senior engineers and Product Managers (PMs) to graduate your concepts into production. You will be shipping highly visible, AI tools for developers around the world. We are a supportive and growth-oriented team that places strong emphasis on psychological safety. The Google Cloud AI Research team addresses AI challenges motivated by Google Cloud’s mission of bringing AI to AI to tech, healthcare, finance, retail and many other industries. We work on a range of unique problems focused on research topics that maximize scientific and real-world impact, aiming to push the state-of-the-art in AI and share findings with the broader research community. We also collaborate with product teams to bring innovations to real-world impact that benefits our customers.Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Own, lead and manage project priorities and deliverables. Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions. Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders. Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices.
  • Operate with high agency. Transform ideas into lightweight hypotheses, build raw prototypes, and demo them early to gather feedback before scaling.
  • Use AI tools extensively in your daily workflows. Explore performer tools to build strong product taste and user empathy.
  • Collaborate with executive Leads, PMs and UX to graduate your experiments into production features, and measure real-world impact.
  • Act as a multiplier for the team, mentoring junior SWEs and leaving things better than you found them.
