About The Position

SecureBio is developing a pathogen-agnostic early-warning system for rapid detection of novel threats. The company manages the world's largest metagenomic biosurveillance network, performing daily sequencing of wastewater and nasal swabs to identify emerging pathogens. This role involves building, scaling, and securing the underlying infrastructure. The ideal candidate is an experienced and pragmatic engineer interested in both strategic architecture and hands-on implementation. This position is the sole infrastructure engineer within SecureBio Detection and a critical part of the Pipelines team, contributing to ambitious scaling and speed objectives.

Requirements

  • Over 5 years of experience in cloud infrastructure, with in-depth hands-on AWS experience.
  • Proven ability to establish infrastructure in small teams with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in infrastructure as code, with a strong preference for Terraform.
  • A security-first mindset and experience with AWS security tools and best practices.
  • Adept at collaborating with scientists and software engineers to understand scientific challenges and design infrastructure strategies.
  • Experience with GitHub and CI/CD.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AWS automations (Lambda, Step Functions) and/or scientific computing in AWS (Batch).
  • Experience provisioning and managing databases.
  • Familiarity with the tech stack: Python, Docker, Nextflow.
  • Broad information security experience; comfortable acting as the security point person and liaison with consultants.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks for federal contracting.

Responsibilities

  • Own the decision-making process for cloud infrastructure design and implementation.
  • Serve as the primary owner and administrator for AWS accounts.
  • Design and implement robust infrastructure for automation, reliability, and observability.
  • Manage and enhance AWS permissions and security protocols.
  • Administer GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, application integrations, and related DevOps functions.
  • Aggressively optimize infrastructure for cost and speed.
  • Utilize AI tools and agentic coding extensively to accelerate work.
