About The Position

Zip is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in Test to own end-to-end quality verification and validation for complex systems, from design through production. The role helps shape verification and validation standards as the engineering model evolves. It is a remote-first opportunity for US-based employees, with the option to work in person from Zip’s Manhattan office. The position is part of Zip’s Engineering team, working in an agile, AI-forward development environment to build cloud-native software applications serving millions of customers and processing billions of dollars in payments. The engineer partners with engineering, design, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure quality is built into products. The role designs comprehensive test strategies, drives root cause analysis, and applies disciplined verification and validation to releases as Zip’s verification and validation organization develops.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in quality engineering, QA automation, or SDET roles, with a track record of owning quality for complex production systems.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills and ability to identify edge cases, failure scenarios, and subtle bugs.
  • Deep understanding of unit, integration, end-to-end, contract, and regression testing strategies.
  • Strong programming skills, preferably in TypeScript, JavaScript, or similar languages.
  • Experience building backend/API and frontend/UI automation frameworks; examples include BrowserStack, Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, and Appium.
  • Experience integrating tests with CI/CD systems and test pipelines.
  • Familiarity with mocking, stubbing, and test data management.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, including the ability to understand system architecture and identify risk areas.
  • Proactive mindset focused on prevention over detection.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools for testing, debugging, and technical problem-solving to improve software quality, team productivity, and delivery speed.
  • Ability to evaluate and apply emerging AI capabilities to engineering workflows with sound judgment about quality, security, and maintainability.
  • Ability to learn and adapt, work in a fast-paced environment, and operate amid ambiguity as the Verification & Release model evolves.
  • Ownership and accountability for outcomes, comfort challenging assumptions, and willingness to advocate for quality.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and raising quality standards across a team.
